Connor Alexander Isgett, Jr., of St. Matthews, passed away at his residence on Monday, August 4, 2014, following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, with the Reverend Dan Brazell officiating. Burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. At other times, friends may call at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. William T. Isgett, 101 Preston Street, St. Matthews, SC. Mr. Isgett was born July 7, 1930, in St. Matthews, a son of the late Helen Zuraskas and Connor Alaxander Isgett. He graduated from St. Matthews High School, attended The Citadel and joined the U. S. Airforce. He earned a BS degree from the University of Omaha, Nebraska and a MS degree from the University of Maryland, where he served as an ROTC instructor. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of active duty. His final assignment was a special courier of documents which took him all over the world. He returned to his home town where he was very active in civic affairs. He retired as County Superintendent of Education of the Calhoun County Schools, after 16 years of service. Mr. Isgett served 35 years on the Lower Savannah Council of Government, three terms on the St. Matthews Town Council, and served as Veterans Affairs Officer for Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He is survived by a brother, William T. Isgett (Esther) of St. Matthews and a number of nieces and nephews, including William Dukes Isgett (Beverly) and Thomas Denman Isgett (Michelle). He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy I. Sterrett.
