Clyde O. Ackerman, husband of Mary Ackerman, of Red Oak Road in Cottageville, died Wednesday night at his residence. He was 83. Mr. Ackerman was born in Charleston on September 27, 1927, a son of the late Clyde O. and Carrie Lou Willis Ackerman. He was a 1949 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and later graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and returned to Walterboro after his service to practice law for over forty years. He was a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where he attended the Will Goodwin Sunday School Class. He was also a licensed Real Estate Agent. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Clyde O. “Ladd” Ackerman, Jr. of Charlotte, and a step-son Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Beck and a step-daughter Traci Bundrick, both of Newberry. There is one sister, Virginia McDonald of Raleigh, and two brothers, Carl Ackerman and wife Carol of Clemson, and McNeill Ackerman and wife Patricia of Anderson. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
