Thornton Jr., 82 DEC. 13, 1924-MARCH 10, 2007 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Clark Monroe Thornton Jr., 82, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at his home. Born Dec. 13, 1924, in Princeton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clark Monroe Thornton and Mary Katherine Duling Thornton. He was a 1950 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He was a 1954 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, receiving a pharmaceutical degree. He started Shepherdstown Pharmacy in 1962, which he operated with his wife until 1993, when they retired and closed the business. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended First Baptist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Stanley Thornton; two daughters, Katherine Thornton of Charleston, and Mary E. Blanchard of Greencastle, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Della Collins; one grandson; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Salango. Military graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Ed Taylor will officiate. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
