Dr. Christopher D. King, faculty member in the School of Education at The Citadel, died October 26, 2008, at his home in North Charleston. Dr. King was born in Charleston and graduated from James Island High School. He graduated from The Citadel and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, a Master of Education degree in Clinical Counseling, and a Specialist degree in School Psychology. He received his Doctorate in Education degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dr. King was a teacher in Charleston County School District and served as Staff School Psychologist for Dorchester School District Four. Dr. King was a faculty member in the School of Education at The Citadel and taught both undergraduate and graduate students until his death. His accomplishments were many. He served as Assistant Director of Cottage Life for the South Carolina Department of Mental Retardation at The Coastal Center, guidance counselor and teacher in Charleston County School District and Dorchester School District Four, psychologist with the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Pediatrics, and Clinical Director and President of Inner Peace Counseling and Assessment Services. Dr. King served two tours of duty in Vietnam both as a Marine and Navy Corpsman. He was a medic in Vietnam and was a compassionate colleague and friend to many. He served as a Readjustment Counseling Therapist at the Veteran’s Medical Center administering to the problems of Vietnam-era veterans and their families. A dedicated educator, Dr. King was a member of the American Mensa Society, American Counseling Association, National Association of School Psychologists, International Association of Trauma Counselors, Disabled American Veterans, and was listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the South & Southwest. Dr. King was the son of Marion Bee King and Ida Morrison Davis King.He leaves one sister, two sons and four grandchildren.A private celebration of his life will be determined at a later time.
