Charlie M. Forrest, Jr., of Anderson, husband of the late Hester Padget Forrest, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at his residence. Born in Johnston, SC, Mr. Forrest was a son of the late Charlie M. Forrest, Sr., and Permelia Hudgens Forrest. He was a graduate of Johnston High School in Johnston, SC and The Citadel, Class of 1945. He served in the United States Army during World War II where he received three Purple Hearts and was a part of the invasion of Normandy, France. After serving as a Professor of Business Administration at The Citadel, he relocated to Anderson, SC in 1951 and founded The Carolina School of Commerce, later known as Forrest College. He was a charter member of Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, SC, a lifetime member of The Anderson Rotary Club, the Elks Lodge #1206 of Anderson and the American Legion Hudgens Post #14. Survivors include daughter, Lynn F. Craine of Simpsonville; sons, Charlie M. Forrest III of Fountain Inn, William P. Bill Forrest of Anderson and Richard H. Forrest of Simpsonville; ten grandchildren, Forrest D. Henriksen, Carlyn F. Morton, Travis N. Craine, Chad Forrest, Kristi King, Will Forrest, Brittany Forrest, Brooke Forrest, Brady Forrest and Brent Forrest, and two great-grandchildren, Devin Morton and Kai Elizabeth Craine. He is also survived by a special devoted friend, Louise Ducworth. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. A Private Service for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel officiated by the Reverend Dr. Johnny McKinney. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Sanctuary of Boulevard Baptist Church, Anderson, SC.
