Charles Timothy Howard, 93, of Birmingham, AL died Thursday, January 20, 2011. He was born January 30, 1917 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was a son of James F. Howard and Nora Lee Riddle Howard. He married Marguerite Sanders in 1940. She preceded him in death in 2009 as “”his sweet and lovely wife of 68 years””. He graduated with a B.S. Degree from The Citadel in 1938 and commissioned as Second Lieutenant. He was called to active duty in WWII. He served three and a half years in Alaska and was assigned to a special mission in Europe. His military service included active and reserve duty for 30 years and achieved the rank of Colonel. He was District Manager of Best Foods and then became owner of Hamilton Foods in Birmingham, AL. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, James F. Howard Jr, Mary H. Crosland, Louise H. Floyd and Benjamin G. Howard. He is survived by his daughters, Anne H. McPhearson of Birmingham, AL, Mary H. (Victor) Peterson of Alexander City, AL and Beth (Billy Cook) Howard of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Sarah Patterson and Victor Peterson; 3 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty B. Howard of Marietta, SC as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin’s in the Pines Chapel at Independent Living.
