Mr. Charles Olan Meyer, Jr., age 81, of Atlanta died February 12, 2006. He grew up in Meyer’s Mill, SC where his father and grandfather ran a grist mill, cotton gin, and were the postmaster and railroad agents until the land was absorbed into the Savannah River Plant in 1950. Mr. Meyer was in the Navy during World War II serving as a Pharmacist Mate on the USS Ponderea in the Pacific. He was awarded the American Area medal, Asiatic Pacific medal (Star), Phillipine Liberation ribbon and the World War II Victory medal. Mr. Meyer graduated from the Citadel in 1948 and retired from Equifax in 1983. He was a long-time member of Briarlake Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Meyer Byrd of Scottdale, GA; sons, Charles O. Meyer, III of Albany, GA, James D. Meyer of Buford, GA, David E. Meyer of Loganville, GA; and seven grandchildren, Jamie Meyer of Orange County, CA, Tiffany Meyer of Atlanta, GA, David C. Meyer of Buford, GA, Joseph Byrd of Alpharetta, GA, Lauren Meyer of Dacula, GA, Derek Meyer of Loganville, GA, and Dustin Meyer of Dacula, GA. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 12 Noon Tuesday, February 14th, Rev. Randy Driggers and Rev. Larry Sullivan officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. in Barnwell County Cemetery in Barnwell, SC.
