Charles M. Gallagher of Cope, SC entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Charles was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 18, 1938. He was the son of the late Helen O’Connor Gallagher and the late James Gallagher. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Gallagher. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emma Jean Kittrell Gallagher of Cope; daughters, Jean-Marie G Jump (Darren), Karen V. Gallagher, and Kelly G. Lasher (Scott); granddaughters, Vivien and Eowyn Lasher of Summerville, SC; a brother, Jim Gallagher of Lima, Peru; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gallagher was a graduate of Newberry College with Masters and Specialists Degrees from The Citadel in Charleston Mr. Gallagher was an Educator and highly successful basketball coach at Bishop England High School in Charleston, SC from 1964-1974. He was also a former principal at Denmark-Olar Elementary and High Schools in Denmark, SC. He retired from the Allendale school system in 2007. In 1980, he was inducted into the Newberry College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also elected to the Elizabeth, NJ Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. He was named to the All-American basketball first team while at Newberry College. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg, SC. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, August 19th, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg, SC at 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 20th, with burial to follow at Memorial Park in Orangeburg, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MUSC Children’s Hospital Foundation, 18 Bee St, PO Box 250450, Charleston, SC 29425, or Newberry College Athletics Giving at Newberry College, 2100 College St., Newberry, SC 29108.
