Charles Levis Sanders, 81, of Hendersonville died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Pardee Hospital. Prior to becoming a resident of Hendersonville in 1997, he was a longtime resident of Greenville, S.C., having lived there with his parents, the late Dr. John Levis Sanders and Pearl Matthews Sanders on Altamont Drive. He received his early education in the city’s public school system before enrollment at the Citadel of Charleston, S.C., and graduating in the class of 1943. Subsequently, he served with distinction in the Army during World War II in the European Theater. Upon his return to Greenville, S.C., he embarked on a successful career in real estate sales, investments and property development. He later served on the staff of former S.C. Gov. John West, where his expertise in developmental housing was applied in concert with the operations and administrations of the S.C. State Housing Authority and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Upon completion or those services, he became the executive director of the Greenville Donaldson Center Industrial Airpark and guided that agency’s growth and development until his retirement from the business sector. He was formerly a loyal member of the Greenville Lion’s Club and a faithful and devout member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville. He continued that faithfulness and devotion through active memberships with the Hendersonville First Baptist Church, Businessmen’s Prayer Breakfast and Daybreak Lion’s Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Louise Scott Sanders of Pisgah Valley Retirement Center in Canton; his adoring sister, Miriam Sanders of Laurel Baye Healthcare in Greenville, S.C.; and his adoptive family consisting of Dr. and Mrs. Randy Tryon and their children, Laura and Jonathan, of Hendersonville. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth C. Skip Fendley and Dr. Randy Tryon will officiate. Entombment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
