Charles Bernard Tilman, 87, a Pensacola/Navarre resident for 42 years, died Wednesday morning in Pensacola, Florida. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he and Mildred Martin Tilman were married on June 6, 1942. He retired in 1975 as a Civil Engineer working in the Civil Service at NAS Pensacola, FL. He was a long time member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Navarre, FL, was a former Warden at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf Breeze, FL, and was a member in good standing with the Masonic Order. He was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents and brothers, Theobald, Milton, Francis, and Creighton. He is survived by his sister, Bruce Adele Waddey; brother, Harold; daughters, Sherry and Donna; son Robert; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:30AM to 10:30AM on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel in Navarre, FL, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00AM at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church. The Reverend Elizabeth J. Powell officiating. His ashes and those of his wife will later be interred in the columbarium at St. Augustine’s, with a portion to be scattered into their beloved East Bay.
