Charles Brewster Prentiss, III, died Sept. 13, 2011, at Med-West Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles Brewster Prentiss Jr. and Julia Middleton Prentiss. Bruce graduated from the Citadel and was a U.S. Army veteran. He purchased C.B. Prentiss & Company from his father and in 1959 he opened Charleston Drapery Service. Bruce was a member and past commodore of the Charleston Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Ortmann Prentiss; two daughters, Eugenia P. Craggs, and her husband, Kevin W. Craggs, of Summersville, South Carolina, and Jennifer M. Prentiss, of Charleston, South Carolina; two grandsons, William P. Murray, and his wife, Carlie C. Murray, of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and James M. Preston Jr., and his wife, Jordan G. Preston, of Summerville, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Grace Preston and Gabrielle Faith Preston and a sister, Julia Blake Hagen of Charleston, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Charleston, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of oneÆs choice.
