Townsend, Carol S. GEORGETOWN / Carol S. Townsend, 51, died Sunday, Mar. 19, 2006 at her residence.She was born on Feb. 5, 1955 in Kearny, New Jersey, a daughter of Robert C. Townsend and the late Ruth R. Townsend.Ms. Townsend was an art teacher at St. James High School in Murrells Inlet, where she was selected as the 2005 Teacher of the Year. In her 29 years of teaching, Ms. Townsend has touched the lives of many students in Connecticut and South Carolina. Locally, she taught at Socastee High, North Myrtle Beach High, Andrews High, Rosemary Middle, Coastal Carolina University, and most recently, at St. James High. She is a graduate of the University of Hartford and obtained graduate degrees from both Central Connecticut State University and The Citadel. Ms. Townsend was passionate about education and her students. Surviving are her father, Robert Townsend of Avenel, N.J.; two sons, Adam and Nick Townsend of Georgetown; one brother, Keith Townsend of Clinton, N. J.; four sisters, Kathleen Townsend of Pepperpike, Ohio, Patricia Townsend of Avenel, N. J., Colleen Townsend of Quakertown, Pa., Stacy Lange of North Brunswick, N. J.; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 23, 2006 in the auditorium of St. James High School, 10800 Highway 707, Murrells Inlet. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 North Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 or the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave., Ste 101, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
