Merbitz, age 89 of South Holland, IL and formerly of Chicago, IL passed away on Thursday, December 27. He is survived by his wife, Martha (nee Pruvost); two daughters: Marlene (Guy) Liptack and Jacqueline (John) Wick; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 12 noon from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery in Calumet Park, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mr. Merbitz was a graduate of The Citadel, during WWII he served as a 1st Lt. with the Army in the European Theater, he was retired after a career as a civil engineer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
