C. Belton Dykes, age 68, of Snellville, died July 3, 2009 doing what he enjoyed, paddling on Stone Mountain Lake in the wooden kayak he made himself. He is survived by wife of 43 years, Mary Lou; mother-in-law, Helen Witkowski; sons, David and Eric; sisters, Colleen Maxwell, Shirley Hand, Wynonna Roberts; grandchildren, Emma Claire and Ethan. Mr. Dykes was born December 10, 1940 in Savannah, Ga and married fellow Army Officer Mary Lou Witkowski on April 16, 1966. He was an outdoorsman, husband, father-mentor, brother, grandfather, friend, Physical Therapist-healer, tinkerer-inventor, fullback-linebacker, Jazz and Bluegrass enthusiast, veteran, officer, gentleman, gentle man, scholar, Duke graduate student, Citadel class of ’62 student athlete, humorist.
