B. B. Cole Jr., 78, of Columbia, South Carolina, died Saturday December 27, 2003. Mr. Cole was born in St. Pauls, North Carolina to the late B. B. Cole Sr. and Pearl Shaw Cole. He was a 1952 graduate of The Citadel and a Naval Veteran of World War II. Mr. Cole began his career by working with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in the Real Estate Division where he remained for 17 years before assuming the position of executive director with the Greater Columbia Economic Development Commission. Among the businesses he recruited to Columbia included Square D. Pirelli Cable and Michelin Tire Company. Mr. Cole was a three-time recipient of the order of the Palmetto awarded by former Governors McNair and Edwards. He was a charter member of Windsor United Methodist Church. Beatrice H. Cole, his wife, preceded him in death. A memorial service was conducted at 11 a. m. Tuesday, December 30 in Windsor United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 2 in Raeford Cemetery for B. B. Cole and his wife, Beatrice H. Cole. Survivors include one daughter, Linda C. Jackson of Columbia; one son, Buddy Cole of Olyphant, Pennsylvania; one brother, Herman P. Cole of Charlotte; one sister, Nancy C. Conoly of Raeford; his grandchildren, Christopher W. Jackson, Stephen C. Jackson and Breanne C. Cole. Memorials may be made to Windsor United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
