Bruce McNichol, 83, of Longmont, Colo., passed away on September 5th at his home in Lyons, Colorado. Bruce was born on January 18th,1938, to Patrick and Ann (Ward) McNichol, in Bronx, New York. He had one sister, Patricia Lyons (nee McNichol; deceased). Upon graduation from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, in June of 1955, Bruce moved south to attend The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from The Citadel on June 6, 1959. He served 3 yrs and 3 months at sea, in the Navy, as a hard hat diver. Bruce spent his career in the construction industry, working in many aspects of the industry and in many locales. He arrived in Iowa City in 1992, where he eventually discovered his love for carpentry. In 1997 Bruce married Patty (Burkett) Miller McNichol. All 4 of Bruce’s children were grown, as were Patty’s, which made it possible for them to enjoy a life of camping, fly fishing, and travel. Bruce loved nature and the outdoors. Bruce has four children from a long marriage to Mary Ann Czapiewski: Ryan McNichol of Houston, TX, Kelly McNichol, Tracey McNichol and Shayne Payne (William), all of Dallas, TX. He has 3 grandchildren, Weston (Sara) and Garret Payne, and Aubrey Haynes, all of Dallas, TX. He has 4 great granddaughters. He also had special relationships with Kate (Miller) and her husband, Mike, enjoying many family holidays, and camping and fishing trips, together. Bruce was a consummate gentleman. A man with a noble character who treated everyone he met with respect and kindness. Due to the covid pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Iowa City.
