Betty Wall Sample, 86, of Lexington, South Carolina, a retired teacher, died Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Betty was born on March 18, 1935 in Bamberg, South Carolina, daughter of the late Franklin Jenkins Wall and Geneva (Pert) McMillan Wall. The family moved to Charleston when she was a young child. She had happy memories of growing up in Charleston Heights, enjoying Folly Beach and going to dances. Betty graduated from Chicora High School and then earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1957. She later received her Masters Degree from The Citadel, attending at night and summers while she taught typing and business in several Charleston, SC schools, most notably, Middleton High School.
Betty was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She also loved working in her garden and traveling with her friends and family.
Betty is survived by son, Christopher W. Sample and wife Wendy of Lexington, SC; daughter, Linda K. Shonka and husband Peter of Hickory, NC and 5 grandchildren, Brian, Jordan and Bradley Shonka and Brooks and Skyler Sample.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. Betty’s funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel at 3:00 pm. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
