Ben Nicoll, of Orlando, Fla., died Aug. 6, 2022. He was born in Walterboro, South Carolina, on July 9, 1940. He lived in Dearborn, MIchigan, for several years but returned to South Carolina to attend the Citadel in Charleston. He was a proud graduate of the Citadel and a veteran of the Air Force, having served in the Philippines and Viet Nam. While stationed at McCoy Air Force Base, he met and married his wife of 54 years Victoria NeSmith Nicoll. He was a loving father to his children David and Peggy and to his granddaughter Victoria. He leaves behind his three grandchildren Emmanuel, Marleni, and Christian, as well as his great grandson Jeremiah, his sister Mary Ann Burtt of Walterboro, his extended family Ted and Jennifer NeSmith, and his lifelong friend Dennie Veator of Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Mary Rivers Nicoll.
After getting his MBA at the University of South Florida, Ben worked as the Assistant City Manager for Temple Terrace, Florida. Soon, however, he opened the Lunch Basket sandwich shop near downtown Orlando which he operated for almost 30 years and where he enjoyed the company of his many faithful customers. Wherever he went, there was conversation, laughter, and good will.
Ben was a loyal member of Park Lake Presbyterian Church. He will be remembered as a gentle man of integrity who loved well and faithfully and was deeply loved in return. On August 6, he died as he had lived-with grace, courage, and dignity.
The family is deeply grateful to those who ministered to Ben during his many hospital stays, especially Dan DeBevoise and John Hunter, and to his legion of prayer givers. A service honoring Ben will be held at Park Lake Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 14.
All are welcome. The service will be streamed, and the church webpage will have a link.
