Benjamin Bryan “Ben” Hare, 87, of Orangeburg, died on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Veterans Victory House Nursing Home in Walterboro. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at First Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Ryan Tucker and the Rev. Toni Pipkins officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Davis Hall of First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Born on Nov. 11, 1926, in Trenton, he was the son of the late William Bryan Hare and Rebecca Ethel Harrison Hare. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was a retired accountant with Champion Building Products. Mr. Hare was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club and First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the Couples Class. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Harriet McMillan Hare of the home; two sons, Benjamin B. “Ben” Hare Jr. and his wife Debbie, and Jon Hare, all of Orangeburg; a grandson, Bryan Hare of Orangeburg; a sister-in-law, Gwen Kearse and her husband Karl of Summerville; two brothers-in-law, Joe McMillan and his wif, Joyce, and Ronnie McMillan, all of Bamberg. Memorials may be directed in Ben’s memory to First Baptist Church, 1240 Russell St., Orangeburg; or to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina, 4124 Clemson Road, Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
