PAYNE, Tricia Beatrice Tricia Payne, 58, wife of John Durst Payne of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at her residence. The relatives and friends of Tricia Payne are invited to attend her funeral service Friday evening, in J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at seven o’clock. Friends may call at STUHR’S MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Payne was born June 29, 1947 in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Muff Beatrice R. Patterson. She was an outstanding athlete who was a member of Moultrie High School’s South Carolina Championship basketball team. She set several state records in track and field events. She graduated from USC, where she majored in Physical Education earning many academic honors. She taught, founded and coached track and field at the former East Cooper School and was instrumental in launching girls soccer in the Charleston Area. She was gifted in working with young people. Tricia led the East Cooper School track and field teams to many state championships. She later earned her masters degree in Clinical Counseling at the Citadel. She was later recognized as an expert in the field of alcohol and drug treatment. Tricia served as the Deputy Director at Ernest C. Kennedy Center. Surviving are her husband, Durst Payne of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Happy Payne of Myrtle Beach, SC; Son, Rob Payne and his wife, Amanda of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two grandchildren, Durst Payne, and Taylor Payne, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her uncle, Gene Rowlette of Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.
