Baxter Sydnor Cox (Syd), 48, died Jan. 3, 2008, of a heart attack in Nakon Ratchasima, Thailand. He was born in Richmond, Va., Sept. 10, 1959, to Baxter Sydnor Cox III and Ann Carroll Cox. He is survived by his loving wife, Chonthita Chuakaew Cox; his beloved little daughter, Samantha Cox of Thailand; his mother, Ann C. Boggs of Newport News, Va.; his stepbrother, Jerry Morton Cox of Morrisville, N.C.; his nephew, Matthew Alexander Cox of Morrisville, N.C.; and his stepmom, Lucille Cox of Hickory, N.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Baxter S. Cox III, and his brother, Stuart Carlton Cox. He was an Eagle Scout and also a 1981 graduate of the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He worked a number of years with Media General in Richmond and wrote a column in the magazine Virginia Business. He always dreamed of living in an exotic land and he chose Thailand. He met, fell in love with and married his beloved wife. They are the parents of little Samantha, the apple of his eye. He was a happy man there. He taught English as a second language in school. His service was held in the temple of the Wat Ban in Thailand. There will be no services here. However, his ashes will be scattered at his favorite places.
