Funeral services for Mr. Basil T. Brinkley Jr., 91, of Atomic Road, Jackson, SC, who entered into rest April 15, 2010, will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Jackson. The Rev. Michael D. Riddle and Dr. Gene Sexton will officiate. Interment will be in Jackson Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Brinkley was a native of Ellenton, having made Jackson his home for the past 58 years. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, having retired with 29 years of service. During the course of his career, Mr. Brinkley worked for Life and Casualty, Dunn and Bradstreet, Murray Biscuit Co. and retired as comptroller for Aiken County Schools in 1986. He loved gardening, fishing, the Atlanta Braves and the Silver Bluff Bulldogs. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Brinkley. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eleanor B. Brinkley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Red Curton of Jackson and Barbara and Rob Phillips of Athens, Ga.; four grandchildren, Shannon Spires, Sam Phillips, Caroline Batson and Sara Layman; and six great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and elders of First Christian Church of Jackson. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Brinkley, Sam Phillips, Rob Phillips, Red Curton, Travis Spires, Tilden Hilderbrand and Garrett Ashley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6.
