Barbara Pearson Moorer, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest the morning of Thursday, March 25, 2010, Barbara Jean Pearson Moorer, wife of Howard Henry Moorer. Residence, Charleston, SC. the relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Howard H. Moorer are invited to attend the funeral service of the latter at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Hwy, Sunday, March 28, 2010, at two o’clock. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Saturday, March 27, 2010, from six until eight o’clock. Born January 1, 1933, in Florence, South Carolina, Barbara was the daughter of the late Leroy Albert Pearson and Myrtle Evelyn Potter Pearson. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.S. degree and from The Citadel with a Master Degree in Education. Mrs. Moorer taught in Charleston County Schools for 20 years, serving at St. Andrews Junior High and Middleton High School. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, served as an officer in United Methodist Women, and was a former member of the choir. She was also a member of the Northbridge Garden Club and the SC Retired Teachers Association. Throughout her own educational background, Barbara was an Honor Student at all levels. She received the History Award at her College of Charleston Graduation and was a D.A.R. essay contest awardee. Survivors include her husband, Howard Henry Moorer; two daughters, Kim McDermott of Charleston, and Teri Howard Tedder of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Ryan Howard, Kyle Howard, James C. McDermott, and Jordan McDermott; great-grandson, Logan McDermott; a brother, Leroy Albert Pearson, Jr., and a niece, Jamie Hankins of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mrs. Moorer loved children and devoted her life to them. Those who would like to donate to a Memorial Trust Fund set up in her name at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407.
