Bernard Thomas “Tom” Devlin, of Penn Township, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James Bernard “Bernie” Devlin and Catherine “Kitty” Devlin. He was the cherished husband of Marie E. (Kellar) Devlin for 40 years; treasured father of Ryan Thomas Devlin, of Texas, and Matthew Patrick Devlin, of California; and dear brother of Kathleen (Wesley) Lollis, of South Carolina, and Patty (Jim) Emerick, of Trafford. Tom is also survived by his beloved Yellow Labrador Retriever, Brooke. Tom received his Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and counseling from Penn State, his Master’s in counseling education from the Citadel and later earned his certificate in guidance from Duquesne University. Tom was a teacher for several years at Greensburg Central Catholic and later became the school’s director of guidance. He retired in 2011. Tom enjoyed fly fishing on the Loyalhanna and also at streams near “The Answer”, his mountain retreat near State College. His other passion was being an ardent Penn State football fan. Tom was fond of taking Brooke to the Penn Township Dog Park and also playing softball with the Penn Township Senior League.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, 412-824-8800. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Barbara Church, Harrison City. Tom will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles.
