RUSHING, Ben Entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 24, 2004, Ben Lewis Rushing, widower of Kathleen Harley Rushing. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services in Bethel United Methodist Church Thursday, October 28, 2004 at eleven o clock. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Wednesday between five and seven o clock. Mr. Rushing was born November 30, 1919 in Greenville, SC, the son of Ben Lewis Rushing, Sr. and Lillian Merritt Rushing. He was a retired Charter Life Underwriter with Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company for 30 years. He was a 1941 graduate of The Citadel and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in The New Hebrides and Europe. Brigadier General Rushing served as Deputy Commander to Major General Thomas J. Thorne of the 120thU.S. ARCOM. He was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Metal. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he was former chairman of the Administrative Board and Sunday School teacher for 50 years. Mr. Rushing was also a member of The Washington Light Infantry, The Country Club of Charleston, and honorary member of The German Friendly Society. He was the city golf champion in 1949 and was a member of The Citadel Alumni Association. He is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Harley Rushing; and survived by two daughters: Barbara Rushing McQuillan and her husband Monte McQuillan of Summerville, SC and Ellen Rushing Infinger and her husband Rev. Robert L. Infinger, Jr., of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren Merritt U. Smith, Alicia K. Smith, Kathleen Infinger Szalay and her husband Joseph, Robert L. Infinger, III. And a dear friend, Jean Badger Lynn of Charleston, SC. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 57, Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
