Augusto Luis Garcia de Quevedo, Dr. Gus, 74, died June 25, 2003 of a stroke shortly after beginning treatment for lung cancer. Gus was born in Catano, Puerto Rico, Nov. 10, 1928, came to NYC, NY at age 14, graduating high school there. He graduated from The Citadel, Charleston, S.C. in 1949 (married Peggy Elrod of Charleston and later divorced), achieved a master’s degree in 1951, received, his M.D. degree in 1955 from the Medical College of S.C., completing internship, residency and general surgery. He served in the Army for 8 yrs: at Ft. Carson, CO, Letterman Gen. Hospital, San Fran., Valley Forge Gen. Hospital, Phoenixville, PA and Ft. Knox Army Hospital, Ft. Knox, KY. In 1965, Gus came to OKC as a pioneer in urology, joining the Appleton-Reynolds-Dunn group, moving in with Jim Boyle in 1966 and into private practice in 1968 at the P&S Bldg., where he saw patients just one week ago. He is a member of the Alumni Assoc. of The Citadel and Medical School of S.C. He is a member of the OK County Medical Assoc., American Medical Assoc., Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, Fellow American College of Surgeons, and Padua Society. He enjoyed debating politics, OU football, had an opinion on almost every world issue and attended Seeker activities at NW Christian Church. Medicine was his life; he loved his patients and the practice of medicine. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Steve de Quevedo of OKC, 3 daughters: Sally de Quevedo of OKC, Chele Bonocore and husband Joseph and their children Dominic and Isabella of Killeen, TX, and Susan de Quevedo of Norman, OK. He is also survived by his sister, Aida Sainz of Rio Piedras, P.R. A memorial service will be held Sat. June 28, 2003 at 11am at NW Christian Church, 2828 NW 30th OKC.
