LTC August Ernest Kertnar, Jr., USA, Ret., of Augusta, Ga., entered into rest Friday, July 10, 2009, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Retired LTC August E. “Gus” Kertnar, Jr., 64, husband of 42 years to Sharon Hall Kertnar. LTC Kertnar was a native of Charleston, SC., and lived in Augusta for the past 25 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served as a Signal Corps officer for 23 years. He attended the Citadel and was a graduate of Augusta College. He was an avid golfer. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Beth Lombardi and husband, David, of Summerville, SC, and Allison Hays and husband Trey of Graniteville, SC; and grandchildren: Haley Lombardi, Lauren Lombardi, and Jay Hays. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Barry Antley officiating.
