In 1962, Ashley married the love of his life, the late Dianne Taylor Bush. Soon after, they moved onto the family farm where they raised five children. Farming was both his profession and his passion. Ashley attended Luray Christian Church and Estill Presbyterian Church. He was involved in the early years of Patrick Henry Academy, and was named to the Board of Directors in 1981. He remained on the board until his last child graduated in 1998. Subsequently, he was given a lifetime appointment to the school’s Board of Trustees. He also served many years as the trainer of the school’s football team. Ashley also served on various community and agricultural focused boards.
Ashley is survived by four children, Lauren Ivans (Richard) of Lady’s Island, Jennifer Madsen (Rob) of Lexington, Stephanie Bush-TeBrake of Hilton Head Island, and Jeb Bush (Dave Nathe) of the home; a sister, Betty Bush, of Hilton Head Island; five grandchildren: Ashley, Cal, Noah, William and Taylor; 4 nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Cody. Ashley considered Marc and Catherine Priester and their children to be a part of the family. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one son, Carson.
While his funeral was private, the family held a BBQ picnic in the shed directly behind the home to receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Patrick Henry Academy (8766 Savannah Highway, Estill, SC 29918) or the Forsyth Farmers’ Market (PO Box 5012, Savannah, GA 31414 or forsythfarmersmarket.com/ashleybush).
