Arthur Baxter Jr. Arthur Baxter Jr. died Monday, July 9, 2007, after suffering complications from a stroke. He was the much loved husband of JoAnn Barrington Baxter for nearly 50 years. He is also survived by a son, Arthur Buddy Baxter III of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and two daughters, Susan (Jeff) Allen of Athens and Mary (Jim) Greene of St. Simons Island; nine grandchildren, Bryson, Jennifer, Laura, Robert, Matthew, Daniel, Kathryn and Stephanie; and one sister, Mary Baxter Harrison of Columbia, S.C. He was born Dec. 26, 1934, in St. Matthews, S.C. He graduated from the Citadel in 1956 and served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired from the armed services in 1977. He had various other jobs before his retirement in 1994, when he relocated to Fernandina Beach and then St. Simons Island. Art became a Christian late in life and was a member of Golden Isles Presbyterian Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be sent to Golden Isles Presbyterian Church, 48 Hampton Point Drive, St. Simons Island, GA 31522
