Arthur Hamilton “Hutch” DeHay, Sr., 78, of Summerville, SC, formerly of Moncks Corner, former co-owner and operator of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, died Saturday at his residence. His funeral will be 1:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, November 24, 2021, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in St. John’s Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinopolis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the DeHay Educational Fund, c/o First Citizens Bank, 212 East Main St., Moncks Corner, SC 29461, to assist with his grandchildren’s college education. Mr. DeHay was born September 24, 1943, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Andrew Kirton DeHay and Julia DeHay Myers DeHay. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School and played on the 1960 State Champion Team and was inducted into the Berkeley High School Football Hall of Fame. After high school he continued his education and received his Masters from the Citadel, and his mortuary science education from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. Mr. DeHay was an Air Force veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. In addition to his career in funeral service, Mr. DeHay taught school throughout the Tri-County area for many years and also had a 20 year career with Walmart. In his spare time he enjoyed making jewelry including belt buckles from bullets and old ammo shells. Mr. DeHay enjoyed playing guitar and drums and often played with the band at Music Man BBQ. He liked riding motorcycles and once made a cross country trip on his. Mr. DeHay also owned a yellow corvette and was a member of the Corvette Club. He enjoyed p-nuts in his coke, Hershey bars, and Mary Janes. He loved to fish, but he excited to be able to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. DeHay was preceded in death by a brother, Andy DeHay, and was the widower of Lyn Boles DeHay. Surviving are his daughter, Jessica DeHay of Summerville; a son, Arthur H. DeHay, Jr., of Summerville; a step daughter, Alison Shepherd and her husband, Mark, of Moncks Corner; a step son, Bret B. Holten and his wife, Angela, of Moncks Corner; two grandchildren, Zabrianna Heyward and Tristan DeHay; two step grandchildren, Tory (Clay) Settle and Hunter A. (Carson) Shepherd; and three step great grandchildren, Sadie Mae Settle, Juliana James Shepherd and Colt Alan Shepherd.
