Angelo Joseph Punaro -ARLINGTON, VA – Angelo Joseph Punaro, 92, died Monday, August 4, 2008. A Rosary will be said at 6 P.M. Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M., Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon. Father Allan McDonald and Monsignor John Cuddy will officiate. -Mr. Punaro, son of the late Antonio and Rosa Punaro, was born in Augusta, GA and graduated from The Citadel in 1938, rising to the honor position of Battalion Adjutant. He served with the U. S. Army in Europe during World War II, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. His late wife, Annina Benedetto Punaro, who died in 1978, taught at Mt. de Sales for a number of years. Mr. Punaro ran his own general contractor business in Macon, GA for over forty years. He designed the garden map of the United States at Augusta National golf course often shown in the Master’s golf tournament photos. While in Macon, Mr. Punaro was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was the father of the late Anthony Punaro and Frank Punaro. -Survivors include his children, Major General Arnold L. Punaro, United States Marine Corps, McLean, VA, Mary Angela Allen of Macon, GA, Vincent Punaro of Dallas, TX, Michael Punaro of Richmond, FA and Trudie Thomas of Arlington, VA; his brother, Vincent Punaro of Sacramento, CA; ten grandchildren, Bert Roesel, Atlanta, GA, Joe Punaro, Arlington, VA, Julie Punaro, Vienna, VA, Meghan Punaro, Arlington, VA, Dan Punaro, McLean, VA, Amy Punaro, Sacramento, CA, Michael Punaro and Sophia Punaro, both of Richmond, VA, Nina Thomas and Mari Thomas, both of Arlington, VA.
