Al Hutchinson 89, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Monday, June 5, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the Rosary beginning at 5:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. Al was born October 6, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, son of Andrew Leroy Hutchinson, Sr. and Frances Elliott Hutchinson. After graduating from The Citadel in the class of 1955, Al joined the U.S. Air Force and flew supply planes for 5 years. During his career, he was a loan officer, branch manager, vice president, president and CEO, and served on the Board of Directors of First Financial Holdings (First Federal Savings and Loan). He retired in 1996, but continued to serve on the Board of Directors until the age of 80. Al was known for contributing to the lowcountry in many ways. He was a member of the Breakfast Exchange Club of Charleston, where he also served as president for 1 year, Charleston Citadel Club, Brigadier Club, Association of Citadel Men, Citadel Football Alumni Assoc., Carolina Yacht Club, Air Force Association, Trident Technical College Foundation Board, Chairman, Trident Board of Realtors Association, College of Charleston Foundation Board, Star Gospel Mission – also serving on their Board of Directors, Navy League Charleston Council, Charleston Southern University – Executive and Advisory Board, Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors, Coastal Carolina Council serving as vice president of administration, SCE&G East Cooper Advisory Board, Trident Urban League Finance Committee, YWCA Advisory Panel, and the Executive Association of Greater Charleston. Al will be remembered for his dedication to his community and the way he loved his family. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn “Kathy” H. Disher (Barry Wilson) of Awendaw, SC; 3 grandchildren, Thomas P. Disher, Jr. (Sharon), Brianna E. Blanchard and Ali H. Blanchard; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marthann M. Hutchinson, his daughter, Diane M. Hutchinson, and his sister, Ewina Holcomb. A special thank you to Somerby of Mt.
