Andrew Jackson (A.J.) Glenn III, of Darien, Ga., went to be with our Lord on Aug. 10, 2022, at his residence at Marsh’s Edge on St. Simons Island, surrounded by family.
A.J. was born on Dec. 28, 1931, in Paducah, Ky. He grew up in Savannah, Ga., graduating from Savannah High School. He went on to study engineering at The Citadel. While there, he met Ann Rustin, who would become his future bride.
Upon graduation from The Citadel with his beloved Class of 1953, A.J. served active duty in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He served 18 months in Korea and Guam as a platoon leader. After completion of his service, A.J. returned home to marry Ann on Aug. 27, 1955, at the Summerall Chapel at The Citadel.
A.J. went on to earn a masters in civil engineering from Georgia Tech. While he and Ann raised their family, A.J. built a career at Law Engineering Testing Company, eventually serving as its president and CEO. After retirement, A.J. and Ann moved to Darien, Ga., where they fell in love with the coastal community. They were active members at the First Baptist Church of Darien.
A.J. loved challenges and adventures. He was an avid reader and endless storyteller. A.J. never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone about most any subject. He will be dearly missed.
A.J. was predeceased by his father and mother; Andrew Jackson Glenn Jr. (Pappy) and Margaret Hill Glenn (Sammy). He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann, and four children: Alif McKean (Tom) of Pensacola, Fla.; Drew Glenn (Jane) of St. Simons Island and their children, Jack Glenn (Meaghan) and Lizzie Glenn; Becky Cook (Mark) of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and Rusti Spence (Randy) of Atlanta, Ga., and their children Ryan, Conner, Brad and Cole Spence.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Marsh’s Edge for their loving care of A.J. and Ann.
A visitation for A.J. will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 3rd, 2022, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Darien. Interment will follow at the Columbarium at The Citadel at a future date.
