Amanda “Mandi” Marie Johnson Kirby, of Moncks Corner, a loving wife, mother and friend passed away at age 50 early Tuesday morning, January 22nd, 2019. Mandi was an incredible woman; always loving, always caring, always encouraging – never entertaining an unkind word. Even during her three year battle with cancer one would never hear her feel sorry for herself. She was a fighter – optimistic and happy. Her passion was the education of children and as a second grade teacher for twenty-two years she hugged every single student, every single day as they came into her class and prayed for them every night. Mandi was born October 29th, 1968 in Britt, Iowa to Gary and Barbara Johnson. She grew up in Billings, Montana, attended West High and moved to the Lowcountry in 1990 after her marriage to John David Kirby, December 29th, 1989. Mandi and John have two children. She received her teaching degree from the College of Charleston in 1993. During her teaching career for the Berkeley County School District she received a Masters Degree in English Language Arts from Nova Southeastern University, and National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards. Mandi taught second grade at J. K. Gourdin and Berkeley Elementary. During the past three years she was the Title I Facilitator at Berkeley Elementary and earned a second Masters Degree in Administration from The Citadel; graduating this past May. Mandi is survived by her husband John, her children, Zachariah and his wife Taylor, and Mariah and her husband Andrew, her parents, Gary and Barbara, her sister Amy, and a whole host of loving family and friends. Mandi “kept the faith” and now spends an eternity with Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour. There will be no services. The family requests no flowers. Prayers are welcome!
