Lt. Col. Allen R. Chellis (USA, Ret.), 74, passed away on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2018, in the Republic of Korea, where he resided with his wife, Kil Cha. He was a 1962 graduate of Easley High School and a 1966 graduate of The Citadel.
He served as an army intelligence and security officer for over 22 years. After retirement from active duty, he continued to work for almost two decades in the intelligence field, both in the federal civil service as an officer on the staff of the Commander, United States Forces Korea (USFK), the Republic of Korea, United States Combined Forces Command, and the United Nations Command, and as Korea Site Leader for the Mitre Corporation, and in security and foreign disclosure for Northrop Grumman Corporation. Among Mr. Chellis’ military-related honors were commendations from the United States Defense Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence and the Republic of Korea.
In addition to his wife, Lt. Col Chellis is survived by his son, Robert of Seattle, Wash., his sisters Marian (Ken) Tinsley of Calhoun Falls, S.C., Ann Halpern of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jane (Gary) Logston of Nashville, Tenn.; and his brothers Paul (Colleen) Chellis of Woodstock, Ga., and Ted (Jeanne) Chellis of Spartanburg, S.C., as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Harold Chellis, Jr. and Ruth Crowley Chellis.
