Allen R. Boyd, Jr. of Saint Simons Island, GA, died March 24, 2013, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Nan Lee Boyd, a daughter, Lorraine Boyd Lambert (Mark) of La Porte, TX, a son, A. Richard Boyd, III (Kimberly) of Atlanta, GA, and seven grandchildren. Allen graduated from North Fulton High School in Atlanta and The Citadel, Class of 1961. After working at Lockheed-Georgia as an aircraft design engineer, he joined Cleveland Tramrail designing and installing crane systems. During his career, he worked in Marietta, GA, Watkins Glen, NY, and Victor, NY. He travelled extensively in his job and privately. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, having served three terms as Master of the Lodge and one term as DDGM, Royal Arch Masons. He enjoyed sailing, remote control airplanes, and volunteering for various causes. He was an avid reader and was rarely found sitting still without a book in hand. In Greenville, SC, he served on the board of the Food Pantry in and around Simpsonville, and each week in the distribution of food. He also enjoyed working in the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church of Simpsonville during his term as an Elder and as chairman of Buildings and Grounds. On the Island he was a member of Frederica Presbyterian Church, The Literary Guild in support of the library and literacy, The Coastal Georgia Historical Society and the Newcomers Club. The family thanks all the nurses and doctors on the Oncology Unit of Coastal Georgia Health Systems for their help and consideration during Allen’s last illness. You made an onerous burden a lot lighter. Memorials may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society .
