Albert H. Wolas, of New York City entered into rest on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, NY. He was 89 years of age. The son of the late Michael and Sonia Wolas, he was born on July 24, 1922 in New York, NY. Mr. Wolas was a wine and liquor retailer most recently affiliated with and “”star”” of Consumer’s Discount Wines and Liquors in Middletown, NY. He was also the founder of Great Eastern Liquors. Albert proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as an aviator and carrier pilot. He was a graduate of Syracuse University. He was a talented natural athlete and was twice the Athlete of the Year at The Citadel. He is survived by his sons, Scott J. Wolas and Gregory M. Wolas and his wife, Carla; four grandchildren: Ryan and his wife, Casey, Tyler and his wife, Stephanie, Candis and her husband, Edward, and Douglas; three great grandchildren: Elijah, Emilia and Harper; his sister, Edith Bandura; nephews, Timothy and his wife, Val and Nicholas; niece, Alexandra; great niece, Isabella; sister-in-law, Frances McKay and former wife, Joan. Albert was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ruth, and sister, Eva. Cremation took place at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, NY. A Memorial Celebration will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, at the Eagles Nest, 58 Eagles Nest Road, Bloomingburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20006.
