Adolph John Medica, 84, of Scottsville, Virginia, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was born October 18, 1929, in New York City the son of Sylvia and Louis Medica. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen Kathryn Medica of 52 years, and his two brothers, John and Alfred. He is survived by his sister Enis Santoro of New York, his two sons John, and James; daughters-in-law, Megan and Kimberly; and his grandchildren John Paul, Lauren Holly, and Owen Christopher. He was a globally recognized senior executive in the Aerospace industry. In his final professional position, after a distinguished career, he served as a corporate officer at United Technologies Corporation and President of Space Transportation Systems. In addition, he served on several boards throughout his career including the National Science Foundation, United States Air Force Association as well as leading the mid-Atlantic Citadel alumni association. He earned his BSEE at The Citadel and Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. A resident of Scottsville, Virginia for 23 years, he invested his time supporting and regularly attending the St George Catholic Church. Together with his wife he was a supporter of Meals on Wheels Charlottesville-Albemarle and participated in many local charitable functions and causes. He enjoyed his leisure time as a member of both Farmington Country Club and Tri-County Riding Club. He also enjoyed traveling extensively around the world throughout his life, especially Italy and sailing in the Caribbean. Most importantly, he treasured the time spent with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Healthsouth Rehabilitation Center, Centara Homecare, as well as the private care-givers for their vocational excellence, tremendous support, and care during the final phase of his life. A memorial mass celebrating his life will be held at St George Catholic Church in Scottsville, VA on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in his name to Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville (cvillemeals.org) and Hospice of the Piedmont (hopva.org).
