Abraham “Abe” Goldfarb died November 13, 2017 In Charleston, S.C. Born October 20, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey, the third son of Frank and Bella Goldfarb. After growing up in Newark, Abe and his family moved to Toms River, N.J. where he went to high school and helped on the family chicken farm. After high school he attended The Citadel and graduated in the class of 1960, with a B.A. in history. During his senior year he was 2nd Battalion adjutant, member of the Summerall Guards and Air Force Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation, he attended Rutgers University, School of Law in Newark, NJ, and graduated in 1963. He reported to active duty at HQ AFMDC (Holloman AFB, N.M.) as a judge advocate. From 1966-1967 he served a tour of duty in Thailand as staff Judge Advocate for a combat support group and the Air Force Foreign Claims Commissioner for Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand. He then served as a trial attorney in the Contract Appeals Directorate at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. In 1969 he retired from active duty and started a 30 year career as attorney with the Lockheed Corporation in Marietta, Georgia. After a variety of legal and management projects, he was selected to be Director, Contracts Management. After a short time in Burbank, Ca. as Vice President of Contracts, Abe returned to Georgia as Vice President of administration and upon retirement in 1998 he was serving as Vice President and General Counsel for Lockheed-Martin Aeronautical Systems. Concurrently, he served in the Air Force Ready Reserve as a judge advocate and retired with 30 years in 1989 as a Colonel and Staff Judge advocate of 14th Air Force (Res). Abe was admitted to the practice of law in Georgia, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the United States. While in Georgia he was active with the USO, the DeKalb County Courts System and the Jewish War Veterans of Atlanta.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Phyllis, daughter, Felicia Marable(Michael) of Marietta, GA., son, Jonathan Goldfarb (Amanda) of Charleston, S.C., grandsons, Jarrod Locke Marable, Harrison Michael Marable and a granddaughter Ave Grace Goldfarb.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs GA on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30309 or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, North Charleston, SC and H.M. Patterson Funeral Home-Arlington in Atlanta are assisting the family.
