Arthur Frederick Hilton, age 80, of Summerville, passed away on August 1, 2023. Fred was born on September 8, 1942, in Walterboro, SC, to parents Wendell L. Hilton and Reba Spell Hilton. He grew up in West Ashley, Charleston, SC. Fred graduated from St. Andrews High School, class of 1960. He was a proud Citadel graduate, class of 1964 where he majored in Chemistry and was in H Company. Following graduation he was commissioned into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served a tour in Vietnam and honorable discharged with the rank of Captain. Fred and his wife, Ceely Pigott, met on a blind date and were married for 54 years. Soon after marriage, Fred entered MUSC College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1972. He graduated Salutatorian of his class. He received the Merck, Sharp, and Dohme Award for Academic Excellence in Pharmacognosy, The Kappa Psi Fraternity Grand Council Scholarship, and The Dean’s Citation for Academic Excellence. Fred was a member of the Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honorary Fraternity. Fred and Ceely moved to Summerville in 1973 where he was Chief Pharmacist at the Coastal Center. Later he was employed and retired as a pharmacist for the Veterans Administration. Fred was predeceased by his parents and brother, Charles W. Hilton. He is survived by his wife, Ceely, and sons, Paul F. Hilton (Jenny) of Mt. Pleasant and Phillip T. Hilton (Rachael) of Summerville, and three grandchildren, Kinsey Hilton, Paul Hilton, Jr., and Sullivan Hilton. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 12th, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at 11 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, one may give a memorial gift in honor of Fred to the following: Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Building Fund, 119-B West Luke Street, Summerville, SC 29483 or the Citadel Foundation, for the Class of 1964, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409. The family would also like to express great thanks to the Veterans Victory House, specifically the staff on Curry Hall. Their compassion, love, and care of Fred during these times are greatly recognized by so many and never went unnoticed.
