Colonel Alan Bruce Avriett, Jr., affectionately known as Bruce to his friends and family and “Munch” to his comrades in arms, of Springfield, Va., departed from this life on March 17, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK, after complications following surgery. Born in Columbia, SC, on November 2, 1977, Bruce was a beacon of laughter and selfless dedication, touching the lives of many with his intelligence and wit.
Bruce was a devoted family man, deeply cherished by his loving wife, Ginger Avriett, his proud son Tripp, his adored daughter Annabelle, his beautiful stepdaughter Bailey Lovvorn, his parents, Alan and Susan Avriett, and his sister Camille McLaren. All will remember him as a pillar of strength and a source of unconditional love.
Bruce’s educational journey was distinguished and exemplified a commitment to academic achievement. Bruce held a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The Citadel and an MBA in Business Administration and Management from Penn State University. Bruce further advanced his studies with a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from the USAF Air Command and Staff College and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
His 23-year career with the United States Air Force was a testimonial of dedication and service to his country. As a prestigious Air Force Weapons School graduate, Bruce’s military career culminated in serving as the Commander of the 552nd Air Control Group at Tinker AFB.
Colleagues, friends, and loved ones would agree that the words “funny,” “intelligent,” and “selfless” perfectly capture Bruce’s essence. His ability to light up a room with laughter and his sharp intellect and eagerness to put others’ needs above his own left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Bruce approached each day with a blend of purpose and ease, leaving a legacy of joy, selfless service, and a love for his country and family that will be cherished forever. As we bid farewell, we carry forward the memories of his profound influence and the warmth of his spirit in our hearts. Bruce’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and dedication, and while he will be dearly missed, his remarkable legacy endures.
A service celebrating and honoring the life of Colonel Alan Bruce Avriett, Jr. will be held at 10am on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Tinker Air Force Base, Dock 2.
