Amos Basil Youngblood Jr., of James Island, 74, loving husband of Linda Riddle Youngblood, entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2013. He was the son of Amos Basil Youngblood Sr. and Elizabeth Lancaster Youngblood. Basil was born in Moncks Corner on July 4, 1939, where his father was an engineer involved with the building of Lake Moultrie. He grew up in Charleston, attended Porter Military Academy and graduated from James Island High School’s first graduating class in 1957 as President of the Student Body, quarterback and co-captain of the football team. He attended the Citadel Military College of South Carolina and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1959 where he served as Company Commander of his battalion in Cape May, NJ. Basil was a general contractor for over thirty years and built numerous homes, churches and commercial properties throughout the Charleston area. He began his career with his father’s firm, A. B. Youngblood & Company Inc. and later established Basil Youngblood Constructors which specialized in custom home building and remodeling. Basil was an active member of Harborview Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Fort Johnson Camp No. 1201, a past member of Wallhala Masonic Lodge No. 66, Elks Lodge Charleston No. 242, American Legion Post 147, the Scottish Rite and Omar Shrine Temples. He was an avid Civil War historian and outdoorsman, whose hobbies included hunting, fishing, sailing, tennis and gardening. Basil’s artistic pursuits included painting, wood carving and model airplanes. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. Basil is survived by his wife, Linda and his children, Amy Youngblood Lucas (Lawrence); son Jarrett Andrew Youngblood; brother, William Manly Youngblood (Ann G.) and sister, Jean Youngblood Ritter (Curtis) of Birmingham, AL. Basil is also survived by his six grandchildren; Basil Lawrence Lucas, Bailey Lancaster Lucas, Margaret Genevieve Lucas, Hanna Elizabeth Youngblood, Emma Rose Youngblood and Jarrett Andrew Youngblood, Jr. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Basil Youngblood, Jr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 9, 2013, at Harborview Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
