Michael B. Armstrong, 75, resident of High Point, died January 10, 2022 at Hospice Home at High Point.
He was born April 21, 1946 in Albany, Georgia, a son to the late Pete and Florence Schutzman Armstrong. Michael graduated in 1968 from The Citadel where he was the Southern Conference Champion in wrestling. Later, he became an electrical engineer and began a career with General Dynamics (Lucent Technologies) which ended forty years later at his retirement while living in Okinawa, Japan. In 1989, he married the former Helen Barfield, who resides in High Point. His stepson, Alex Cooper, preceded him in death in 2020.
Also surviving is his step-daughter, Casie Payne (Tony) of Greensboro; step-son, Andrew Cooper; three sisters, Dee Scognamillo of Phoenix, AZ, Pat Nelson of King, NC and Lynn Walker (Terry) of King, NC; four brothers, John Armstrong of Burlington, NC, Robert Armstrong (Kim) of Orlando, FL, David Armstrong of Burlington, NC and Jimmy Armstrong (Stacy) of Boston, MA; and three grandchildren, Patrick, James and Abigail Biggs.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 11796, Charlotte, NC 28220.
