Donald (Don) Norris McCulloh, Sr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went to be with God on Sunday, November 7th, 2021. He was a young 83 years old.
Above all, he loved his family and was happiest when they were all together. With a loving wife of almost 43 years, four children and nine grandchildren, he kept everyone laughing with his great sense of humor and silly dad jokes. He would tell anyone who would listen about their various accolades and achievements, and made sure he was there to celebrate every graduation, recital, lemonade stand and sporting event possible.
Born in 1938 in Baltimore, MD, Don became an Eagle Scout at 14 years old. He attended Baltimore City College and graduated in the top 10% of his class in 1957. In 1961, he again graduated in the top 10% of his class from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina with a B.S. in Business Administration and then became an officer and management engineer in the United States Air Force. He went on to get his M.S. in Financial Management from the prestigious George Washington University in 1968.
Don worked at Towson University for a total of 48 years, only retiring in 2018 with the support of his family. While there, he served as Vice President of Business and Administration, and upon unofficial retirement taught Business Management and Leadership for the remaining 13 years. He was a dedicated educator who truly loved every minute and helped thousands of students during his time. He was known for being fair and grandfather-like and kept in touch with so many students after they graduated.
In addition to teaching, he enjoyed giving back to his community, serving with the Towson Foundation (formerly Towson Rotary), Towson Business Association and the Towson Development Corporation. Despite his countless large contributions to those organizations, he especially loved serving others at the Mana House and Helping Up Mission, as well as ringing the bell every holiday season with the Salvation Army through the Rotary.
Don loved dogs, Hallmark romantic comedies, going to dinner followed by the movies, a cold Guinness, visiting Bermuda with Betsy, vanilla ice cream and walking in the rain. He loved his country, and never missed a chance to salute the flag.
He will be terribly missed and always loved by his wife Betsy McCulloh (Waters), brother Ralph (Charlotte) McCulloh, his loving children – Jamie (Paul) Martin, Donald (Holly) McCulloh Jr., Kathryn (John) Jang, Emily (Justin) Hartzell; his beautiful grandchildren, Gabrielle and Alexander Martin, Chase, Wyatt and Haydon McCulloh, Zoey and Lily Hartzell, Macsen and Liza Jang. He was well loved by his sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Don was met in heaven by his mother (Lucille McCulloh Washkevich), father (James Henry Norris McCulloh) and stepfather (John Washkevich).
Friends may call at Ruck Towson Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, where a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 18 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
