Edwin Eugene “Gene” Brunson, II, of Florence, died Thursday, October 21, 2021, after a sudden illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 25, 2021, at Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the home of Meg and Bubba Brunson, 549 Oleander Drive, Florence, SC.
Gene was born in Florence, a son of Edwin Thompson Brunson and Elizabeth Bonnoitt Brunson. He earned his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany and served in Desert Storm. He was discharged as a captain after ten years of service. Following his military service, he returned to Florence where he worked with his father in the family Real Estate business while also working as a homebuilder. He then earned his nursing degree worked as a registered nurse for over 15 years and was a Nursing Supervisor with MUSC in Florence at the time of his passing.
Gene was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 475, sponsored by Central United Methodist Church, and served as Scout Master for a number of years. During his free time, he enjoyed all things outdoors including hunting, camping and boating.
In addition to his parents of Florence, he is survived by his wife, Candace Lane Brunson, of Florence; three sons, Spencer Thompson Brunson of Athens, GA, William Miller Brunson and Alexander Cannon Brunson, both of Florence; a daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Brunson, also of Florence; two brothers, Bubba Brunson (Meg) of Florence and Ernest Brunson of Georgetown, SC; a sister, Marian McFadden of Florence; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 475, payable to Central United Methodist Church, 265 W. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29501.
