John Benjamin Gregg of Hanahan, SC, passed away on September 5, 2021. “JB” as he was frequently called was born on November 21, 1933, in Cleveland, TN. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sally Case Gregg; parents, Marshall Harper Gregg, Sr. and Ortha Dixon Gregg; older sisters, Roselle Ostrander and Estelle Black; and younger brother, Marshall Harper Gregg, Jr. He leaves behind his younger sister, Bobbye Patrick of Lake Charles, LA; son, Richard (Robin) Gregg of Goose Creek, SC; daughters, Ellen (Dr. Spencer) Wagner of Sumter, SC, and Allison (Doug) Williams of Katy, TX; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews who love him dearly. John graduated from Bradley High School in TN in 1951, married Sally Case on August 29, 1958, then graduated from The Citadel in 1960. John served active duty in The United States Army, from 1954 to 1956, serving part of his time at The Far East Command in Tokyo, Japan, as a cryptologist in The Signal Corp. He was awarded The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. He was in The Army Reserves until 1962. He retired as a civil engineer from The Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1989 after more than 35 years, at the age of 55. He was an avid golfer. He spent many years of retirement thoroughly enjoying time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who love him. A Graveside service will be held on September 10, 2021, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
