Robert E. “Bob” Hardin, of Myrtle Beach, passed away Saturday, July 10th 2021 surrounded by his beloved family. Born September 2, 1932 in Spindale, NC, son of the late Willard Lander Hardin and Virginia (Cole) Hardin. He is survived by his dear wife, Helen and his three children; Virginia Wimberly (William), Robert Hardin Jr, and Robin Anderson (Scott). As well, three step children; Diane Rodney, Donna McBride, Bruce Cummings; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Bob loved to listen to the blues and he loved to shag dance. After graduating from the Citadel in Charleston, SC, he entered the United States Army in 1958. Major Hardin served two tours in Vietnam being awarded numerous citations for heroism including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with V Device-Second Oak Leaf Cluster with 33 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Major Hardin was also awarded the Master Army Aviator badge. The family requests donations to Crescent Hospice in lieu of flowers at https://www.hospicesc.com//make_a_donation.php Burial, with full Military Honors, will be held later in Arlington National Cemetery. “If we cannot do him honor while he’s here to hear the praise Then at least let’s give him homage at the ending of his days Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.”
