Sarette Roberts Fender, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Gilbert Simms Fender entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Sarette was born August 6, 1934 in Columbia, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jackson Lee Flake Sr. and Lillian Ziegler Flake. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and The Citadel Evening College, retired from a career as a counselor at Oakbrook Elementary, and was a therapist with a focus on child advocacy. Sarette will be remembered for her positive attitude, charisma, and compassionate heart. She loved dancing, playing the piano and organ, and painting. She is survived by her sons, Russell A. Roberts (Heather Asselin) of Houston, TX and James M. Roberts of Gaston SC; daughter, Sheryl Bidwell of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Gibert’s children Becky and Vicky; brothers, Jackson Lee “Chippy” Flake Jr. (Lucie) of Goose Creek, SC and Jerry Flake of Swansea (Lois), SC; sister, Sandra Kitching of Maryland; ten grandchildren, Sarah-Ashley, Caroline (Jonathan Keyes), Casey, Rachel Robus (Jason), Russ, Sarah-Elizabeth, Timothy, Zoe, Jamie , and Hannah; and four great-grandchildren, Rylee, Grayson, Hayden, and Blake. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Fred Luther Roberts; son, Randall F. Roberts; and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Roberts.
