Eugene Marshall “Bookie” Burns, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Madeline L. Burns, entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 15, 2021. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 19, 2021 in Charles Towne Landing, 1500 Old Towne Road, Outside Founders Hall, Charleston, SC at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 18, 2021 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, where social distancing and masks will be observed. Bookie was born October 17, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Eugene M. Burns and Dolly Duncan Burns. Bookie left The Citadel after his Junior year to go serve in the Army. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He returned to the Citadel after three years and graduated with the Class of 1971. He was a decorated veteran of Vietnam and was the recipient of a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and was awarded 3 Purple Heart s. Following military duty, Bookie entered the Banking Industry and retired as a Senior Mortgage Loan Office with Nations Bank. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Madeline; son, Eugene Marshall Burns, III (Laura); daughter, Amy Kissell (Jason); two brothers: Stephen Burns (Kathy) and Duncan Burns (Courtney); four grandchildren: Hannah Burns, Ashley Burns, Bella Kissell and Harper Kissell.
