Samuel Brown Sanders, Jr., 81, of Charleston, known to his friends and family as “Brownie”, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, while under Hospice Care. He was born April 27, 1939, and was raised in Charleston. He attended St. Andrews High School, the Citadel and Clemson University. Brownie was an avid boater and enjoyed spending summers at Folly Beach while growing up. He was a long-time member of the Charleston Yacht Club, an Honorary Life Member of the Hibernian Society, the Optimist Club and a Mason. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Brownie retired from IBM after 30 years of faithful service. After retirement he turned a hobby, antique clock repair & collecting, into a very successful business. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Brenda Sanders; brother, Edward Sanders (Susan); and sister, Julie Cliff (Rich). He was preceded in death by his son, Trey Sanders; parents, Judy & Brown Sanders; and nephew, Captain Richie Cliff, who died in service to his country. Brownie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Roper Hospital, his surgeon and the staff at the Agape Hospice House for their care. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
